The Daze Lake Overseas Returnee Town R&D Center (Phase I) is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Xiaoxiang North Road and Huanhu Road in Wangcheng District, Changsha, China. As a key project supporting Changsha's strategy to become a global R&D hub, it is the first Overseas Returnee Town in Central China. Covering an area of approximately 65,000 square meters, the campus serves not only as a premium office complex but also as a symbol of innovation and sustainable architectural design. Officially commissioned in early 2025, the development consists of seven full steel-frame buildings, highlighted by the iconic "Sky Hall", a striking circular landmark with a diameter of 70 meters.
The architectural lighting scheme for the Daze Lake R&D Center is designed to emphasize its distinctive architectural identity, with particular focus on the iconic circular form of the Sky Hall and the refined texture of its exposed steel structure. The design creates a striking nighttime appearance that conveys a strong sense of technology and futurism. At the same time, as a green building demonstration project, the lighting system is designed to achieve low energy consumption while supporting China's Dual Carbon (carbon peaking and carbon neutrality) objectives.
To deliver a highly efficient and dynamic lighting experience, the project utilizes a carefully selected combination of advanced luminaires, including:
LED Wall Washer Lights: Widely applied to the building façades and the floating interlayer panels of the Sky Hall, these luminaires precisely highlight the elegant geometry of the exposed steel framework through uniform wall-washing illumination, creating a seamless, modern nighttime appearance that reflects the project's technological and futuristic character.
LED Pixel Lights: Strategically distributed across the rooftop, these programmable pixel lights create dynamic color-changing and dimming effects, bringing the architecture to life with a vibrant and engaging nighttime identity.
LED Flood Lights: Strategically positioned around the building base and landscape areas, these floodlights deliver broad, uniform illumination that ensures nighttime safety while accentuating the scale, depth, and architectural details of the development from afar.
Customization played a key role throughout the project. The lighting solution was tailored to the building's complex geometric architecture while embodying the core concepts of ecology, smart technology, and shared spaces. As the project's signature landmark, the Sky Hall features a distinctive circular form, an indoor ring-shaped running track, and a rooftop sky garden. To meet these unique architectural requirements, bespoke luminaires were developed with customized installation angles, carefully selected light colors, and an intelligent lighting control system, achieving a seamless fusion of light and architecture.
